February 01

Suraj Kund Crafts Mela- It is a celebration of Indian handicrafts, folk traditions and cultural heritage. In this Mela, the richness, and diversity of handicrafts, handlooms, and cultural fabric of India are seen. People enjoy cultural activities, dances and food from different states.

World Wetland Day- World Wetlands Day is a celebration related to environment, began in the year 1971. The theme for the year 2021 “Wetlands and Water”, highlights on wetlands as a habitat for many creatures and as a source of freshwater and encourages actions to restore them and stop their loss.

Groundhog Day (USA)- The idea of the groundhog coming out of its home to “predict” the coming of spring. This is believed that, if the groundhog sees its shadow on February 2 and return to its burrow, then it is an indication about
ongoing winter to continue for a few more weeks. The perception is that, If it does not see its shadow, then the pleasant spring is on the door.

World Cancer Day- World Cancer Day originated in 2000 at the first World Summit in Paris to fight against Cancer and focused on significantly reduces the death caused by cancer. This year World Cancer Day theme is: I Am and I Will.

International Day of Zero Tolerance to Female Genital Mutilation- Female genital mutilation is a global human rights issue affecting girls and women across the globe.  The day is acknowledged globally as a violation of the human rights of girls and women.

National Pizza Day – Yummy!! It will be fascinating to know that 350 slices of pizza are eaten every second in the United States. And can you believe that Pizza has been regarded as the clear winner as the World’s most popular takeout of choice. With its yummy tastes it has won both heart and stomach. Pizza Day started in the 10th century in Naples, Italy and since then it is celebrated.

 

February 10

World Pulses Day- Every year on February 10th, World Pulses Day celebrates little healthy beans as pulses Day. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) announced 2016 as the International Year of the dry edible seeds of plants called Pulses. The day is linked to the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

National Deworming Day- Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) are a significant public health concern and a huge number of Indian children aged 1-14 are estimated to be at risk of worm infections. In 2015 the Government of India launched the National Deworming Day to deworm children of this particular age group, which is a single fixed-day approach to combat worm infection.

World Unani Day – It is a global event which takes place every year in February, 11th with the main objective of spreading attentiveness about health issues through Unani system. The pandemic has affected the humans globally and emerged as the biggest health challenge. The day is the birthday of great Unani scholar and social reformer “Hakim Ajmal Khan and

the objective is to pay tribute to the legendary for his wonderful contribution in Unani system of medicine.

International Day of Women and Girls in Science – The day UNESCO’S International Day of Women and Girls in Science is observed on 11 February and highlights the achievements and challenges of female scientists across the globe and focus on the reality that science and gender impartiality are both essential for the attainment of internationally approved development objectives.

National Productivity Day – National Productivity day is an occasion for suppliers to celebrate their contributions and give something back to their users.

Actually it is celebrated by the National Productivity Council (NPC) with the purpose to promote productivity practices. It indicates that productivity is never an accident.
It is always the result of procedural efforts o provide the best of their product, it urges you to focus on keeping things efficient, on stripping out waste and finding ways to streamline processes.

World Radio Day – Annunciated in 2011 by UNESCO, and adopted by the UN General Assembly in 2012 as an International Day. On February 13 World Radio Day (WRD), Radio, a powerful medium, is celebrated, which has transformed our society in many ways at a number of times and has delivered so much while initially promising so little. Most importantly, radio personalizes the experience of listeners, as they use their imagination while interpreting what’s unfolding.

National Cheddar Day – February 13th is the official date for National Cheddar Day. The day is celebrated to honor cheddar cheese for all its rich, nutty, creamy goodness.

 

Super Bowl Day (USA)- The Super Bowl is a one sporting event of the year that has a bit of everything for sports, entertainment, and food fans of all levels and interests. Super-Bowl Sunday is always a big deal; it is the National

Football League (NFL) annual championship game, which is played in February.

Valentine’s Day – Though some historians believe that Valentine’s Day commemorates the death of St. Valentine on February 14, others believe that the day actually has its origins in a Pagan fertility festival called ‘Lupercalia’. At the

end of the 5th century; Roman Pope affirmed the date of February 14 ‘St. Valentine’s Day.

 

February 15

President’s Day– Washington’s Birthday, the first President of the United States officially honors the life and work of George Washington and later became a significant day of remembrance and the is recognized as President’s Day. The day commemorates past presidents of the USA.

 

February 18

National Drink Wine Day- It’s a day to celebrate our collective love of wine with the purpose to spread the health benefits of wine. American’s love their bubbles; whether it goes by any name or simply sparkling wine. Pop a cork and see the smile on the faces of many and witness everyone ready with their glasses.

 

February 20

World Day of Social Justice – It was declared by General Assembly in 2007 that, 20 February will be celebrated annually as the World Day of Social Justice. The day is commemorated to raise voice against social inequality and injustice in addition to remove barriers regarding race, gender and religious discrimination etc.

National Love your Pet Day- Our furry and non-furry or fins and feathers friends and pets have a very extraordinary place in all our hearts and the day is a time to embrace this idea that these pets are unique and the day is to show your pets extra love and your extra attention.

 

February 22

World Thinking Day – The day, celebrated since 1926, by Girl Scouts and Girl Guide. It's celebrated around the world by 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 150 countries with the idea of having a day for appreciating girl guides

and scouts around the world, and it is an opportunity to speak out and raise awareness for the issues that young women and girls face.

National Margarita Day- The margarita cocktail has been a beloved cocktail and the day is to celebrate this marvelously delicious drink, and the rainbow of colors, flavors and aroma it comes in. There are stories and myths, as to how and when the margarita was created. It is believed that it is popularized in 1977 and the day is claimed to have been founded by a few dozen bartenders.

 

February 27

World NGO Day- It’s a brainchild of Marcis Liors Skadmanis was celebrated first time on 27 th February 2014 at Helsinki with the aim to inspire and encourage people to participate and provide services to NGOs altruistically for the betterment of society. It is a day to celebrate, commemorate and collaborate with the various NGOs around the world.

Protein Day – India’s first ‘Protein Day’, a public health initiative has been launched with the purpose to raise awareness, and educate India on the health benefits of protein.- Right to Protein is the agenda of the day.

 

February 28

National Science Day – It commemorates the invention of the Raman Effect. C.V. Raman was an Indian Physicist. Raman Effect is a change in the wavelength of light which was declared a National Historic Chemical Landmark by the American Chemical Society and on the recommendation of National Council for Science and Technology Communication ( NCSTC) it has been declared the National Science Day on February 28.

 

Health Tip for the Month:  February is American Heart Month. A heartbeat, even
no one can see it, but can feel the same across the Globe.
